A strategic relationship
As a socially responsible company, CAEI is committed to contributing to the development of the local sugar industry, the communities near our sugarcane fields and the economy of the Dominican Republic. In this sense, the province of San Pedro de Macorís, where our factory is located, is the geographical area with the greatest economic, ecological, and social impact of the consortium.
The installation of our manufacturing center on the western bank of the Higuamo River is strongly linked to the evolution of the province as the center of the modern sugar industry. It was here, in the second half of the 19th century, where the animal-driven sugar mill became a steam mill. For decades, this demarcation, founded in 1822, captured the interest of large investors, after becoming the main economic center of the country, thanks to the production of sugar. The history of San Pedro is a story of prosperity and growth, of work and opportunities, of dreams and effort.
For this reason, CAEI promotes or participates in initiatives that seek to improve the living conditions of the people of San Pedro and preserve its natural resources. Currently, many of our employees are natives of the province. In addition, from time to time, the company organizes job fairs aimed at students or professionals residing in the municipalities of San Pedro.
In order to raise awareness about the importance of protecting our habitat, CAEI carries out environmental activities or educational campaigns in the schools of nearby towns. Likewise, it coordinates and participates in clean-up days on the province’s beaches.
CAEI is also a member of the Multisectoral Coalition for the Conservation of the Higuamo River Basin. Since 2007, this association, made up of public and private institutions, has been carrying out various projects for the sanitation and preservation of the river, including reforestation and water monitoring.
